The capability of Christmas tree mini lights will dictate the life of the bulbs; the less high-priced the string, the shorter the life. reasonable string lights only last about 300 hours, plan on replacing them every year. The best capability mini lights can last up 2,000 hours but will cost you more.

Most Christmas tree mini lights come in strands of 50 or 100 bulbs but other choices are available. Some string lights are designed to stay lit even if a bulb burns out (this is called "wired in parallel"). Be sure and replace the burned bulb at once as the voltage to the remaining bulbs will increase and cut the life of the string lights.

Decorating With Christmas Tree Mini Lights

The foremost thing to remember with incandescent Christmas tree lights is to never connect more than three strings together.

Mini lights are favorable for both indoor and outdoor decorating. They are mostly used in indoor trees, outdoor shrubs, colse to tree trunks, as window borders and as accents to other decorations. Basically anytime a large number of small points of light are needed for the desired affect.

The distinction in the middle of C7 and C9 Lights

C7 and C9 bulbs are commonly determined former outdoor Christmas lights. Their large size makes them surely graphic and bright.

The distinction in the middle of C7 and C9 bulbs is mainly the size of the bulb and the wattage. They are ready in whether 2,000 hour life (120V) or 3,000 hour life (130V). C7 light bulbs are about 2 inches while C9 light bulbs are about 3 inches. The wattage varies everywhere from 3.5 watts up to 10 watts depending on the bulb size.

C7 and C9 lights use screw type sockets so bulb transfer is easy.

Decorating With C7 & C9 Lights

Because these lights are large, they make an excellent selection for decorating large outdoor trees and shrubs, building perimeters, fences or everywhere that a "classic" holiday look is desired.

Once again, you can only connect up to three strings together at once.

Rope Lights

Rope lights are the "new kid on the block" in holiday light choices. Essentially rope lights are just mini lights encased in a Pvc jacket. There are a multitude of colors ready and a collection of lengths production them an easy and affordable choice. sell market commonly sell them in lengths of 3, 6 and 8 feet. Rope lights can also be purchased in spools of 50 and 150 feet for larger projects. Rope lights sold in spools can be field cut at 3 or 6 foot intervals for custom looks and designs.

Decorating With Rope Lights

Rope lights are an excellent selection for creating figures, designs and as accents for walkways, handrails and borders. Their flexibility makes them excellent for creating shapes like snowmen, reindeer, wreaths and the like. They are miniature only by your imagination.

One thing to note with rope lights is that if one bulb burns out, then a section everywhere from 3 to 6 feet will also burn out. If you have a long continuous run you can splice in a new length. If you've purchased short lengths then the entire rope light will have to be replaced.

The capability of the rope light will rule its dependability, so as you value your choices bear in mind that the less high-priced rope lights may have to be supplanted much sooner than their more high-priced counterparts.

Decorating with lights is the most efficient way to originate a festive climate any time of the year. We're all accustomed to finding Christmas lights in the winter and Halloween lights in fall, but string lights can be used for any special occasion. pick the right string lights for your task and you'll be pleased with the brilliance and sparkle they give to any holiday or event.

Electrical protection For Homes and Small Businesses

Visual Inspections

Many problems are confident to the trained eye. Look at all the leads to appliances. These should only have the outer insulation showing. If this is damaged, the lead should whether be shortened, cutting out the damaged piece, or substituted altogether. Damage ordinarily occurs at whether end of the lead. If the lead does not go into the plug properly, the plug should be rewired (see plugs); similarly at the other end. If the lead has been damaged in the middle (a common occurrence with vacuum cleaners, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, etc.), the lead should whether be substituted or reconnected with a proper lead connector (2 or 3 core depending on whether the lead is earthed or not), which has proper cable grips for the lead going in and out. Using 'choc. Blocks' and/or insulation tape for reconnecting leads is not advised.

Sockets & Socket Sets Hand Tools

Any damage to the casing of appliances should be repaired. Live parts should be well protected from the exterior casing, and if this contains any metal, in most cases the appliance should be earthed. (Many old table and floor lamps, particularly home made ones, are not earthed even when they have metal parts. These should be re-wired with 3 core cable.) It is permitted for 'double insulated' products not to have an earth (even some with metal exterior parts). In this case there must be at least two layers of insulation in the middle of live parts and the outside. If the product has been bought from a reputable dealer in the last few years, and is not earthed, it is probably Ok.

Any signs of overheating (black or burning marks etc.) indicate a qoute (see later).

Many citizen think looking sparks at switches (more commonly in the dark) indicates a problem, but this is general in most cases. Extra switches are available which do not spark, but these are high-priced and only significant in environments where there are inflammable materials around.

Feeling and Listening

Anything that feels hot to the touch (often accompanied by signs of burning) indicates a bad connection, except of procedure in heaters themselves. So does a crackling sound. This often occurs in the middle of plug and socket and could indicate a bad contact in the middle of these two. In this case one or the other, or often both, should be replaced. If say a plug has come to be worn, prolonged use of it will often cause the socket it is plugged into, to come to be worn as well, and in this case both should be replaced. A uncomplicated way to tell if the socket is worn, is to plug something else into it with a good looking plug, and see if it overheats with this.

Bad contacts can occur at other places too. They can often be cured by rewiring so that all connections are tight and well insulated.

If an otherwise seemingly good lead seems to be getting hot, it ordinarily indicates it is not up to the job, and needs to be substituted by a thicker one. This is particularly true of prolongation leads (see later).

If a 'tingle' is felt when touching an appliance, it indicates a serious fault, and the appliance should not be used until this has been rectified.

Sockets

All sockets can be tested with a relatively cheap (around £5) socket tester. For a Uk version, see the link below, but these are also available in other countries for their singular type of socket. They ordinarily have three lights and when plugged into a socket, if all three lights come on, the socket is wired correctly. If only two, one or no lights come on, there is a fault and the aggregate of lights tells you what that fault is. Sockets should preferably be switched so that the furnish to any appliance can be turned off in an emergency.

Plugs

This applies to Uk quadrilateral 3 pin plugs, but the same theory apply to other types.
If the plug is not of the moulded type (these cannot be repaired - they must be cut off, discarded and substituted if faulty) unscrew the cover and study the plug. The cable grip must grip the outer insulation of the lead. The international colour code is: brown to live terminal (the one with the fuse related to it), blue to neutral (opposite to the live) and green or green/yellow to the top earth terminal. Each contact should be secure, with diminutive or no uninsulated wire showing exterior the terminal. There should be diminutive slack on the live and neutral; the earth lead can be left slacker, so that if the lead is pulled out, the earth is the last one to come out. The accurate fuse for the appliance should be fitted in the plug. The most common values are 3A, 5A and 13A. Use 3A for appliances up to 700 watts (e.g. Lamps, much electronic equipment, etc.), 5A up to 1200 watts (some drills, hair dryers, etc) and 13A up to 3000 watts (most heaters, kettles, washing machines, tumble driers etc.). A rating plate somewhere on the appliance should tell you the wattage. If it gives the current (in amps.) instead, this can be de facto converted to watts by multiplying be the mains voltage (e.g. A 2A appliance running off a 240V mains would have a wattage of 480).

The old plugs with uninsulated live and neutral pins should be replaced, so that a plug half pulled out of a socket is safe, even if person pokes a metal object in the middle of plug and socket.
Pins on plugs should be shiny brass (brass is used because it contains copper, a good conductor, but is stronger than copper). If they are dull or dirty, they should be cleaned with emery cloth or replaced.

Increasing the no. Of sockets

In these days of a profligacy of computer and other electronic equipment, there are often not enough sockets available and there are varied ways of increasing these. The best way is to use a suitable prolongation lead, which can have 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 cut off sockets and each socket can be switched individually or not. Alternatively, socket converters can be used. These plug into a socket and 4 or 3 switched new sockets are then available. There is no lead related with these. Mains adaptors (certainly unswitched and unfused ones) should be avoided.

Extension leads have a plug on them, fused at the maximum current the lead will take, ordinarily governed by the thickness and distance of cable used on the lead. It is probably better to use a 13A lead in all cases (this is the maximum that should be drawn from a singular socket). If the total power plugged into the lead exceeds what it is fused at, the fuse will blow. Very long leads should have a thicker cable, and those on a reel should be unwound fully to aid heat dissipation, if a current approaching their maximum is being used. If the lead gets warm (see earlier) it is a sign that it is reaching its maximum capacity.

How To change The engine Oil And Filter On A Peugeot 205 Diesel Part One

The Peugeot 205 is a great wee car. The primary 'hot-hatch' - they were immensely favorite from the moment they were introduced back in 1983, due to their styling, performance, and nimble handling. The reliability of the diesel versions is the stuff of legend, and there are still fullness of well-maintained examples on the road today.

The cost of running a car has increased enormously over the last decade, and even owners of an thrifty car like the diesel 205 need to cut unnecessary spending wherever possible. One easy way to achieve this is to do your own oil changes.

Sockets & Socket Sets Hand Tools

The 205 diesel motor has a reputation for being virtually unbreakable, but only if the motor oil and filter are substituted every 6000 miles. This is an easy job to do and will only take colse to half an hour. Oils and filters can be bought cheaply at any motor factor or car-parts shop. I suggest that you use semi-synthetic oil, as it is more durable than commonplace mineral oil and only a wee more expensive.

Before you start, be sure to assemble all the things you will need. These are:

1) 5 litres of semi-synthetic oil for diesel engines

2) New oil filter (Fram part No. Ph5566A)

3) New 16mm copper washer for the sump plug

4) Old washing-up bowl

5) Latex gloves

6) Newspaper

7) Kitchen paper

8) Tool for sump plug (17mm socket, or 8mm quadrilateral for turbo engine)

9) Oil filter extraction strap

I also like to flatten out a cardboard box to kneel on.

First, the car should be parked on a flat and level face ideally in a garage, but if not pick a day when the wind isn't blowing. Start the motor and allow it to reach near normal operating climatic characteristic then switch it off. This is because the old oil will drain out more swiftly when it is warm. Next, put on your gloves, open the bonnet, and issue the oil filler cap on top of the engine. It is orange, has two spring-clips holding it on, and the dip-stick goes down straight through the middle of it. The filler cap is settled at the top part of the engine. Now spread out the newspaper under the car to catch any drips and place the washing-up bowl under the sump plug. This is settled at the bottom part of the engine. If you are fortunate enough to own the turbo version, use the 8mm quadrilateral tool held in a socket to turn the sump plug anti-clockwise, otherwise, you need a 17mm ring spanner or socket. Be Very just Here. The oil may be hot enough to burn you and will gush out very swiftly when you remove the plug. The oil will stop dripping in a few minutes.

Meanwhile, carefully move the washing-up bowl towards you a little, so that it is now underneath the oil filter as well. On the non-turbo motor there is good way to the filter, and you can assuredly wind the strap colse to it and unscrew it, again turning anti-clockwise. Be aware that hot oil will spill out from the filter when it is removed, and it should to be kept upright until you can drain it into the washing-up bowl. This is not the case with the turbo motor though. way to the oil filter is very limited, and I find I cannot remove it by normal means. The way that I remove the filter sounds drastic, but it works. What I do, leaning in to the motor bay, is to moderately tap two long thin screwdrivers right straight through the top of the filter and down to the bottom, settled diametrically opposite each other, and as close to the sides of the can of the filter as possible. Then I lay a short metal bar on top of the filter and swing it round anti-clockwise until it contacts both of the screwdriver blades. By holding the screwdriver handles vertical with one hand I have enough buy to turn the filter with the other and loosen it. Once loosened, it spins off the rest of the way using my fingers. If you observe the filter once it is off, you will see that this formula cannot cause any damage to the engine.

You are now halfway through...

Now it is time to put it all back together. Begin by cleaning the sump plug and then fit the new copper washer on to it. Now wipe colse to the plug hole with the kitchen paper, before screwing the plug back in (clockwise) until hand-tight. Use the tool to tighten it a further 3/4 of one turn and you are done. Do not tighten any more than this, as you may distort the metal and cause an oil leak. Next, wipe off any old oil from colse to the filter housing, being just not to introduce dirt into the recess. Take the new filter out of its box and look at the underside. You will see a thick black rubber sealing ring. This must be lubricated with a wee fresh motor oil before fitting. The easy way to do this is to dip a gloved fingertip into the new oil and then 'paint' round the rubber ring until it looks obviously oily. Now spin the new filter on (clockwise) being just not to cross-thread it at the start. Keep turning the filter lightly by hand until you feel resistance, then turn it a further 1/2 of one turn. There is no need to tighten any further, and doing so would only make it very difficult to remove at the next aid interval.

At this point you are ready to put the new oil into the engine. The motor requires 4.5 litres of oil in total, so you will find it useful to put 4 litres in level away. It can be difficult to pour a full bottle of oil without spilling any, so go slowly, giving the oil time to drain away down the filler aperture, otherwise it may bubble up and splash over the side. If you are using a funnel you must be very just about this, as you could assuredly lose a whole funnel-full because of this effect. After you have the first 4 litres in, it is time to start the motor and distribute the new oil colse to inside it. There will be a wee delay in construction oil pressure until the new filter has been filled up, so the oil warning light may stay on for a few seconds at first. Run the motor for a minute, then switch it off and leave it for at least 5 minutes. This gives time for the oil to determine back down to the sump, and you can then get a allowable reading on the dip-stick. Withdraw the dip-stick from the oil filler cap and carefully wipe it clean on kitchen paper. Now push the dip-stick all the way back into its slot and take it out again. This time, you will be able to see how far the new oil has come up between the two notches. The dip-stick looks a bit like a thin flat steel ribbon - be sure to look at both sides to get the true reading. A reading anywhere between the upper and lower level marks means that the motor has enough oil to run without damage, but you should always try to keep the motor oil at or just below the upper mark. This is for two reasons: a greater quantity of oil means there is more fresh oil in the engine, but also, oil serves to cool the parts of the motor that water cannot get to. So oil assuredly plays two vital roles in the engine: lubrication and cooling.

Getting the oil to the exact level on the dip-stick can be a bit tricky, and you must be just not to over-fill with oil - at best, the motor will blow the excess oil out straight through its breather pipes and into the air filter; at worst it can cause oil seals to pop and subsequently leak. Just keep adding a wee more oil then let it determine for a wee before wiping off the stick and checking again. It helps to know that the see-through window on the side of the oil bottle is marked in 1/4 litre sections, so you know how much has already gone in to the engine. Don't just pour 4.5 litres level in there though, because there is always a wee of the old oil still left behind in the engine.

Now it's time to tidy up. Wipe off any oil that has spilled over the motor with kitchen paper and place it in a plastic bag with the old filter. I then tip the used oil into old plastic milk bottles ready to take to the recycling centre. Likewise with the newspaper and cardboard I have used. On no catalogue must oil or anyone contaminated with oil be dumped as household waste, or tipped down any drain. It must be disposed of properly.

That's it now. Clean your tools, wash your hands, and go for a drive. Notice how the motor sounds smoother and pulls just that wee bit more eagerly - you might approximately think it's saying thank you! And you just saved yourself a load of money, and put in the best oil! Enjoy...
